About Lizzie

I’m Lizzie Patterson, a creative who works across the mediums of art and photography.

As a contemporary figurative artist, I create large-scale, life-size portraits that celebrate colour, character, and connection.

Fashion photography has been my life’s work and visual language, and its influence runs deep through my paintings. You can see it in the composition, in the poses, in the gaze. I approach each portrait with the same sensitivity to framing and attitude found in editorial imagery, then translate it into a bold, painterly space. Flat areas of carefully curated colour are added, and some areas are left undone to disrupt the illusion of realism.

What I leave out is just as intentional as what I include. I’m not interested in traditional portraiture or perfection.

I’m drawn to the essence of a person, the vibrancy of their presence, and the spaces between what is seen and what is felt.

Working at life-size allows me to create a sense of immediacy and intimacy; my use of foreshortening brings the viewer closer, both physically and hopefully emotionally.

I’m currently working on a series that will fill an entire room with life-size portraits, each one a celebration of visibility, diversity, and colour. I welcome commissions and collaborations, particularly with those looking to bring thoughtful, joyful, and dynamic art into residential, commercial, or hospitality spaces.
